This afternoon, two women who were staunch members of the Opus Dei organization did a lecture on the negative effects of the use of artificial contraceptives and the “real” population situation of the Philippines. The first topic was discussed by a ob-gynecologist while the second issue was “developed” by a lawyer.
I know it would have been better for me to post the actual powerpoint presentations, but unfortunately, the lecturers didn’t want to share their imaginary world - at least not digital format. I have no idea how the entire ‘lecture’ relates to the Organ System Integration Curriculum… no idea at all.
Here’s the gist of their rather la(t/m)e attempt of the Escriva fanatics to poison the well and indoctrinate the new generation:
*gather enough patience for 3 lifetimes*
1. The Philippines doesn’t have a population control problem. There is ample living space in rural areas and the government must focus all efforts to transport the excess urban population to provincial settlements. Due to this, bills like the Reproductive Health act that seek to curb the population growth, enhance social welfare services and ensure the well-being of women and children are irrelevant for the country’s situation.
2. The end goal of any population control scheme is abortion. Case closed. Therefore, we should forever shun population control lest we want the risk of eternal damnation.
3. We as a people should uphold our Filipino pride and not just be coerced by the West to doing what they think is right. This wasn’t clearly substantiated but with the line of argumentation used, I’m inclined to think that the lecturer felt that having huge families is a Filipino ‘trait’ that we must preserve.
4. Even if we are getting more numerous and poorer time goes by, we Filipinos are survivors and can adapt to the changing times. We are survivors! Down with population control!!! The lord will provide!!! Hallelujah!!!
5. The world is gearing towards embracing a population control. Countries like Singapore and Estonia are offering subsidies and rewards for couples who could bear more children. Ergo, the Philippines should follow suit and join the party.
6. Electrification is the best way to control the population. If there’s electricity, couples are less likely to have sex. This is a direct contradiction to their stance of urban overpopulation. This statement assumes that the cause of the population imbalance is the habitual intercourse of rural folk
7.Population control should never be an option and doctors should not support artificial contraception.
8. There is equal distribution of resources in the world according to population. The West wants to limit our population so that they can have all the resources to themselves.
I’ve never seen evil this up close. tsk tsk

i’m sorry. i just stumbled into this just now. hence, really late reply.
oh my god! i’ve never seen more RUBBISH in my life!
see, that’s our problem. we’re so disattached to reality. “Everything’s here for a reason”, “Our poverty now doesn’t matter. What matters is life after death.”
Hay naku! That’s the Filipinos’ problem. We’re so mystical and unrealistic.
Wow, thanks for digging this up.
