Hi there!
My name is Jhed. Care to exchange links?
[I sound so n00b.]
thanks for the comment. Would you like a second link? You’re already there, dammit! haha
Oh wow. Really? I’m second in line, harhar!
Link ex? You seem to be hopping from one site to another. Hehe. Is there really a organized body of Filipino Atheists here? Hmmm…interesting. It seems that an organization as such would have a hard time thriving in a country such as ours where people would rather be stupidly blind to their religion than use their heads to think of what is rational and ethical. I dread religion so much. Or rather, the way people wield religion for power and division.
Please read my article, “Dreading Religion” (http://tesstermulo.com/?p=386″
@Tess: Aside from UP Diliman’s Atheist Circle (that I can’t join due to the fact that I never went to Diliman) and the Pinoy_Atheists yahoogroup, I’m not aware of any organizations that cater to atheists. I don’t really think it’s necessary to take it that far, but by coming together it at least shows that Atheism is present - and hopefully, prevalent.
benj,
I too am an atheist.
Michael, if you have a button, upload it and I’ll take care of the rest. If you could link back to my site, that would be great too. Thanks.
edit: I just added you - and you’re the first one. hehe
Yeah, I think it would be better if there really is no organized body of atheists. Can become quite like having an organized body of “religion”. That’s a frightening thought.
Yup, online correspondence and interaction is nice, but when it spills towards organizational hierarchies and standardization of principles, things become strangely similar to having a sect. hehe
youre faaip_de_oiad from pex right?
im just curious.. hope it’s okay to post questions..
are you really an atheist? i mean why? how long have you been one? what made you become one? how is an atheist living or surviving in this world? what are the things that you only believe in?
i jst really wanna understand why..
thanks
hi salmonella, yup. I’m faaip_de_oiad from pex.
are you really an atheist? i mean why?
Yes. Why? It’s the same reason why you’re whatever you are. I don’t have the predilection to believe in a god or anything that supernatural /metaphysical. It could be a summation of a lot of factors, but to cut the long story short, I don’t believe in the existence of god (not just the christian god) because there is a lack of impetus to believe in one. In the end, it becomes a mere escape from uncertainty.
how long have you been one?
I was an inquisitive young child and early on, I had my doubts that the whole god idea was true. I’ve been questioning the concept mentally since I was 8 years old (I think).
I first encountered the term ‘atheist’ in a poem that our Literature I professor required us to read. From that point on, I knew I was atheist. I was 11 then.
what made you become one?
I don’t really think I became one. I am one. An atheist is an atheist is an atheist. There are no ifs and buts about it. It’s the same case for the christian who chooses to “forget” his fatih for a while. An atheist would never be a receptive to the idea of faith, the existence of god etc. because there is not enough empirial information to prove it. An atheist, even if he wanted to, will not be able to believe in a god because it would always feel like he’s kidding himself.
If it helps you, think of it as a ‘disability’ (term used lightly). We are unable to lull ourselves into thinking that way.
How is an atheist living or surviving in this world?
Majority of people in China have no religion. Much of Europe and Australia are also predominantly humanist/atheist. Atheists are not that much of a minority in the world.
what are the things that you only believe in?
I believe in the value of peace, empathy and good family ties. Basically, doing what is good for your fellow man.
Thank you for visiting. I don’t expect everyone to understand atheism, but I’m doing my best to verbalize it in terms that could better facilitate understanding.
your last comment should have been and entry itself.
Yup, I agree with AJ. Dress it up so you could post it as an entry. Or just post it as it is. Whatever suits your fancy.
I don’t want to put a label on myself, but Atheism has quite a hold on me. And recently, I got introduced to works of Ayn Rand and I think she got it smacked down real what I think I’ve believed in for so long. I just can’t believe she beat me to it. Haha. Do you know her?
Visit the site dedicated to her philosophy http://www.aynrand.org, if you don’t know her yet. I’ve been telling everyone about her, so bear with me! Hehe.
OMFS~! Tony’s face is there. I’m shocked. O_O
While you’re at it. Link PhilippineAtheists.org too. ^.^
