S.S.S. = Senatorial Survey Sham

The latest survey results by Pulse Asia bear little surprises for the most part. Crying enthusiast Loren Legarda is currently leading the pack of Senator wannabes. This “nature-loving” maker of useless-road-signs-with-poems-printed-on-them former journalist is enjoying immense popularity. She is familiar to 96% of all people surveyed. That means if you don’t know her, you probably need to get out of your hole. I do appreciate the fact though that despite not knowing Loren, you’d care enough to read this blog. What the hell is up with Loren’s popularity? Was she even that big doing The Inside Story for Channel 2? Did people even watch that late night show? Does she owe it to her endorsement deals - was it with a laundry detergent? Whatever it was, THAT factor has something to do with the projected 46.6% of the vote that she will get.
The number two senatoriable is former cop rumored kidnapper, murderer, money launderer, homosexual and just about everything his detractors could think of Panfilo Lacson. With him in the Grand Alliance Genuine Opposition, Team Erap stands to clinch the Senate’s top slots come May. He is a distant second to Legarda but he still is expected to get one out of every three votes cast.
The next people on the list roll off easily: Kiko Pangilinan will win thanks to Sharon Cuneta; Alan Peter Cayetano will win because voters are idiots; all the jolog fans of Eat Bulaga will powervote Tito Sotto to the top (as if 12 years of incompetence wasn’t enough) and the rest of the “Wednesday Group” (Joker Arroyo, Ralph Recto and Manny Villar) follow suit to top the lower half of the short list of 12. JV Ejercito has decided against running for the Senate for the mean time and will just continue the Ejercito dynasty in San Juan.
Here’s the anomaly.
Aquilino ‘Koko’ Pimentel is number fucking 10!
Would you even recognize Koko Pimentel if you saw him on TV sans captions?! And look at the awareness score! 86?! I didn’t even know about him last month! Most of the people probably didn’t have the chance to clarify this issue because father and son share the same first name along with equally retarded repetitive nicknames.
Awareness = If a respondent answers YES to the question Do you know this person? It has nothing to do with the awareness of the respondent about the candidacy of the person involved.
Let me repeat that… 86% of respondents are aware of the existence of Koko Pimentel! In case that doesn’t do it for you let me run down the list of people that Koko Pimentel trumps in terms of “awareness”:
Kit Tatad (79%)
Winnie Monsod (69%)
Bayani Fernando (70%)
Chiz ‘Algebra is irrelevant‘ Escudero (79%)
Mike Defensor (80%)
and even Alan Peter Cayetano (80%)
How can he even outmuscle the famewhore that is Alan Peter Cayetano? Pimentel’s political career highlight involves losing twice in the local elections in Mindanao. How can that trump Cayetano’s pathologic habit of accusing people without proper substantiation and research?!
WTF.
TEAM UNITY better make it clear that Nene and Koko are not the same person. They should make ads about this.

hoi! ang init ng ulo mo sa results nung survey na yan ah! cool ka lang
i didn’t know that BF is running for a senate seat, MMDA na lang sya.
Chiz ‘Algebra is irrelevant’ Escudero —> This one really made me laugh! Hehehe! :-p
Oo nga, sino ba si Koko Pimentel? He’s become suddenly famous just because he’s running for senate. Before that, no one’s really ever heard of him.
Boo, kala ko yung tatay. People should really start naming their kids after them if they want them to be politicians in the future. They benefit from their names.
aajao: No, Bayani Fernando’s not running. This survey was taken before the actual deadline for the filing of the certificates for candidacy.
Tess: To his credit, he’s a bar exam topnotcher. But then again, he ran for mayor twice (Cagayan de Oro) and lost twice.
Jenn: Hey, I share the same name as my dad! lololol Too bad he only served for three years and then decided to quit all together - not that I want to hold public office. hehe
Nakita ko yung ad ni Pimentel kagabi.. pang soap opera wehehe
Political Dynasty sucks
Deception at its finest. Pati ako naloko eh.
Kool lang Pare. It ang sagot sa init ng ulo mo …
POLITICAL DYNASTY: NEITHER AGAINST LAW NOR MORALS
By Sen. Aquilino Pimentel
With due respect to your opinion, I do not find (my son, Koko’s, running for the Senate) to be against the law or morality.
That it is not against the law is clear. The Constitution bans political dynasties “as defined by law.”
There is no law that defines it yet. I supported the proposal to ban political dynasties in my first term as senator that started in 1987. To no avail. It did not, even then, get to first base (committee hearings).
As for morality, my general view on morality is mainly defined by the 10 commandments and to some extent by contemporary standards of the body politic.
There is nothing in the 10 commandments that says that my son should not run for public office because I am a senator of the land. And the body politic seems to have looked the other way as far as the issue goes. Look at the present composition of the Senate. Look at the present composition of the House.
What surprises me is that those who criticize my son’s quest for a seat in the Senate do not seem to mind the dynastic tentacles of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in the House where a brother in law and a son are incumbent congressmen and another son and a daughter-in-law or relative want to land House seats in other districts.
RESPECT FOR THE OPPOSITE VIEW
That said, I respect the views of those who disagree with my thoughts on the matter. They are entitled absolutely to their opinion. That’s why I went to jail four times during the martial law years and got tossed out of office twice - so that the people would have the freedom to do what moves them to do and say what they think without being sanctioned for it.
Days ago, JV Ejercito, a son of Erap who was groomed to run for the Senate, was reportedly told by the latter to quit so that his slot in UNO could be given to someone else. I was asked by local media if I should do to my son, Koko, as Erap supposedly did to his. I said no. My son is old enough to decide for himself. I do not tell him what to do. He did not ask my permission to launch his candidacy for the senate. But because I believe he is more than capable and competent to do the job of senator as the only candidate of the Opposition from Mindanao, I support his decision to do so. Forgive a father’s pride but I must mention that Koko is the only bar topnotcher (No. 1) candidate for the Senate today.
Unless it is patently wrong, I will never substitute my judgment for his.
UNO CHOICE
While we are at it, may I just explain further that our party, the PDP Laban endorsed only one candidate, my son Koko, to run for the Senate to represent Mindanao. The Party in fact has no other candidate in the UNO slate. And believe it or not, I have not lifted a finger to get Koko nominated by UNO.
The records will show that I have not attended a single UNO meeting up to this writing. And Jojo Binay, the head of UNO can attest to the fact that I had NOT moved to get Koko included in the UNO lineup. But now that he is there, as his father, I will back him up to the best of my ability so that he becomes a senator to represent Mindanao and the rest of the country.
If people disagree, that’s fine with me. If they agree that would be great and I’d like to add, I do not think that they would be disappointed.
I have tried my level best to do what needs to be done for the good of our people and won’t tolerate any wrongdoing by any member of my family to the extent that I am capable of doing.
MINDANAO NEEDS MORE REPRESENTATION
And while it is true that there are many Muslim candidates who should represent Mindanao, it is the considered opinion of the UNO leadership that considering present day circumstances, it would be difficult to get them elected. And it is not for lack of trying. As far as PDP Laban is concerned, in the 2004 elections, we fielded Amina Rasul of Sulu and we endorsed also Dilangalen of Cotabato, an Ateneo graduate of the College of Law. The administration fielded Dr. Parouk Hussin of Sulu, governor of ARMM and a doctor of medicine. Amina, an excellent Moro lady leader bar none, Dilangalen, a most articulate Muslim congressman, and Hussin, a doctor of medicine who specialized in Sweden. Still and all, they did not quite make it to the Senate.
That said, let me stress that as of now, I am the ONLY senator representing Mindanao in the 24-man body called the Senate. We should have more.
Anyway, let me repeat that I have nothing to do with the choices of the senatorial bets of UNO. I have stayed away from UNO meetings. And have not involved myself in its decision making process.
The reason for my actuations is that, among other things, I have my hands full as minority leader in the Senate. I told the UNO leadership when they organized it that it was a good thing that they got organized but that they should not expect me to be with them in their deliberations. I will stick to leading the opposition in the Senate and they should do their thing outside the Senate. And I think that since I have paid my dues to the country in the struggle against martial law, I did not feel it necessary to participate in UNO activities.
BONUS
I will try my best not to respond to any more critique or observation regarding my stand on my son, Koko’s, running for the Senate. All I will want to say is that he should be judged on the basis of his competence to do the job of senator. If he is not competent, then he should not be voted for. But if he is, by all means, I suggest that people should vote for him. That people may want to vote for him because he is my son, I would consider merely a “bonus” and I am sure the people won’t have any occasion to regret their support for him.
In any event, because we are still a democratic nation, the people have the ultimate veto power over who should be or not be in the Senate.
COALITION, OK?
As to your view that it is not moral for us to have a coalition with Erap because he is facing plunder charges, what would YOU like PDP Laban to do? Side with Gloria? If that is so, what about the massive raids of the public treasury which her administration is doing? What about the Fertilizer Scam, the Road Users Tax scandal, the illegal use of the OWWA funds for election purposes? And Garci tapes? And the extrajudicial killings that go on relentlessly? Would it be moral to side with her? But not with Erap?
I cite these instances not to convince you, sir, to change your mind. You are entitled to your thoughts and no matter how much I disagree with them, you have every right to air them.
As to your observations regarding other bad eggs in the UNO line-up, is it your contention that GMA’s senatorial slate is composed only of angels?
ELECTIONS AS SIEVE
In the end, that is why there is an election so that people will choose the good over the bad. I hope that ultimately the election process will act as a sieve so that in the end we will only have the best and the brightest serving the country and people especially in the Senate.
Maayong adlaw kanimo, igsoon. God bless.
Fraternally,
NENE PIMENTEL

New updates available.
Maraming salamat po.
My article has nothing to do with political dynasties.
It’s all about people who answer survey sheets thinking that they’re voting for Aquilino Pimentel II.
hehehe sinusugod ka na ng mga “e-team” ng mga senatoriables lol
What the fucking hell is wrong with voting for AQUILINO PIMENTEL for senator? He is well qualified. he is no.1 in the bar exams and that means he has brains. Would you rather have cesar montano for senator? or richard gomez? Please!!!!! Save our country. VOTE FOR QUALIFIED people. I dont know whats your beef with pimentel. But all i can say is — y dont you run for the senate. let us see what you can do.
Are Koko Pimentel’s supporters illiterate?
I guess so.
Read the post genius.
I never said that Koko Pimentel was not qualified. All I said was that Koko Pimentel is NOT popular enough to get an 86% awareness rating in a national survey. Are you going to argue that your Koko is more popular than Escudero, Cayetano and Defensor?
Did you even bother to analyze what was posted?
How can an intelligent man like Pimentel have supporters are stupid as your self.
Here’s what I said:
THE SURVEY RESULTS DON’T MAKE SENSE BECAUSE THERE CAN’T BE MORE PINOYS WHO KNOW KOKO COMPARED TO CHIZ (Active since 2004, spokesperson for FPJ, UNO and has always been on TV), DEFENSOR (again, talks a lot on TV) and CAYETANO (talks a lot, period!). KOKO IS A NEWCOMER SO HE CAN’T HAVE AN 86% AWARENESS RATING?! OK?!
Here’s how your retarded brain processed the idea:
Koko is not qualified.
GENIUS. GENIUS.
If Benj would run for Senate, I would vote for him haha
Popularity po pinag-uusapan dito hindi kakayahan
sorry benj for butting in :p
Again, an awareness rating is the measure of how many people KNOW you. Take note, KNOW (not VOTE).
In short, Cesar Montano gets high marks there because he’s a movie star.
Now, compare that to Koko Pimentel who wasn’t even a blip on the radar screen last year. 86?!
I’m surprised Escudero, Defensor and Cayetano didn’t get 90 !
Pimentel had no way to be known prior to the survey. Ads and posters weren’t allowed then. Are you going to argue that 86% of Filipinos ( /- the standard deviation) know him?!
LOLOLOLOL @ Annie Puyo.
Koko Pimentel who?
Was he the the son of Nene Pimentel who was given a juicy position in a bank by ex-PResident Erap?
Anyway, the popularity is not because the people know him. The respondents must have mistaken him for Nene which biodata is all over the net. Koko’s nowhere to be found except for two which have few hits and the other one doesn’t even has his profile as a blogger.
Hahaha, reminds me of a scene in that old Eddie Murphy movie, The Distinguished Gentleman. For the benefit of those who’ve not seen it yet: Murphy’s character, Thomas Jefferson Johnson, is a con man who decides to join the biggest con game in town–the US Congress. He’s a nobody, so how does he do it? He gets and distributes the old campaign materials of a deceased Congressman, Jeff Johnson!
Couple in voting precinct:
Wife: “So, who do we vote?”
Husband: “Don’t we always vote Johnson?”
Dear Mr Benj. i totally agree with your analysis of the KOKO PIMENTEL phenomenon…but i wish you would take a closer look at GO candidates like Alan Cayetano, KiKo Pangilinan and Chiz Escudero, i believe in them and i will vote for them.
Yeah, i still remember the slogan ‘Jeff Johnson…the name you know’. (I’m still voting for him though:-)
@ Annie Puyo: Whatever you’ve been smoking, I want.
I agree the high rating of Koko may be due to the popularity of his father, and respondents may simply have mistaken him for his father.
BTW, as far as I know, Koko ran only once as a mayoral candidate against the current mayor and lost decisively, including his entire slate. Another candidate who was a HS classmate ran as a third candidate and also lost. And may have caused Koko to lose more badly because the 3rd candidate was initially allied with Koko’s group.
While your analysis may be spot on, I would be still say that electing Koko would be a big boost for Mindanao which has always been inadequately represented nationally. Assuming that when elected he will focus efforts on Mindanao interests, since Koko has lived outside of the old hometown for most of his professional life. As a matter of fact, many local pundits surmised that a pivotal reason for his loss was precisely because many local voters did not consider him a local resident.
WTF! moment it is indeed. anyway, sws just realeased a new survey placing koko at number 14. now that looks realistic, don’t you think?
WHERE IS RICHARD GOMEZ AND CESAR MONTANO? I THOUGHT THIS WAS BASED ON POPULARITY LOLOLOLOLOLOLZIEEEEEEESSS!!!
[...] the blogosphere, commentary on the survey results comes from Atheista, who finds the results for Pimentel III unfrigginbelievable; The Purple Phoenix, who has some [...]
I’d vote for Pepe Pimentel. Kwarta O Kahon is the shiznit.
Wait, is this the Pimentel we’re talking about? LOLz
No, it’s not Pepe we’re talking about but:

Bilib talaga ako sa kanya!
Pwedeng pwede sa Senado!
Woohoo! A shout out from Manolo! hehe
one day….. poof!!! it became koko crunch… I mean koko pimentel
Hahaha, people have probably realized that Koko is not Nene! That explains an unknown like Pepito Cayetano can get 6% of the votes! This whole elections is one big charade! The next survey will probably show Richard Gomez and Cesar Montano in the magic circle when people realize they are running. And Roco winning, with people thinking that he is still alive. What a farce!
That’s an excellent point willjoe. There’s also another unknown Aquino in the race. This could actually seriously endanger the chances of Noynoy.
Yup, I still think Montano is a probable winner when it’s all said and done.
