Though there is some substance to your claims, your premise is true for just about every award-giving body there is. Atheists are not exactly austere nihilists. We are as vulnerable to vanity just like every other person – and that's not a bad thing.

At the end of the day, events like this makes people pool together and feel like they're part of a community. When that happens, everybody wins. But that's just me.
