My List Of Ten Is Complete! - Vote For Happy Slip You Freaks!!!

Updated!

Last updated June 6, 2007 0454

In a novel attempt to expose the emerging influential blogs of this year, Janette Toral (of DigitalFilipino fame) has decided to open the floor for nominations for the blogs worthy of such an honor. This exercise seeks to champion the new bloggers (and blogs) who are slowly making a name for themselves in the already-crowded blogosphere. It could be any blog in the world as long as the blog was started August 2006 or later.

Janette asked everyone to list ten (10) or less choices, so here it goes. [note: I can change this list until July 28]. I’ve seen a lot of entries and they seem to be focused on a particular corner of the blogosphere. Hopefully, my entry would feature another sector.

In random order:

What is wrong with you people?! Yes, I know she’s already won second in the YouTube Awards, but Happy Slip still falls within in the regulations of the contest!!! She only started making her video September of last year! She deserves to be in the list of ten emerging influential blogs for sure! She’s a superstar! Yes! A Superstar! Now admit the error you committed by leaving her out by voting for her NOW! I LOVE EXCLAMATION POINTS!

NO VOTES FOR HAPPY SLIP?! AND A NUMBER XX RANKING FOR XXXXXXXX?!?!?!

This is MADNESS!

Cokskiblue by Coy Caballes (April 2007) - The allusion to the beverage is fitting, this blog definitely brings out something refreshingly cool and different. The mere fact that the blogger is using a totally different medium to get his point across makes his content more compelling and a lot more palpable. This guy definitely breaks the mold as far as 20-something bloggers go and I’ve heard there have been some people who have done their own video blogs because of his precedent.

Fire Eyed Boy by Sir Tech Agnostic (January 2007) - Though not exactly a newcomer to blogging, Sir Tech Agnostic overhauled his blog when he folded up shop and packed his bags to Wordpress. So far so good. Long live the curmudgeons!

The Dork Factor by Jhed Cabrera - To say that Jhed has legions of fans is an understatement. He has enough readers to put up a good fight against Xerxes’ army in the movie 300. Everything is easy breezy in Jhed’s blog, it’s perfect for people who want to have a nice laugh at the expense of an exhibitionist tell-it-all teenager.

Kubiertos by Chris and Apples Havarata - Yes, the couple with the coolest-sounding surnames come up with one of the better-looking and painfully-appetite stimulating sites in the Pinoy Blogosphere. This site is definitely a shoo-in.

The D Spot by Dine Racoma - This blog wasn’t on my original list. Why? Because I made the silly assumption that she has been blogging for years now. One quick look at her blog roll reveals that despite being the matriarch of the esteemed Racoma blog dynasty, she is still a newcomer when it comes to online journals. With her deft writing skills, she’s able draw and keep readers from her generation as well as visitors from her kids’ generation (i.e. mine). That has to count for something, right?

This Is Not Pink! This Is Salmon. by Kevin Bautista - I didn’t consider him initially due to the following reasons: 1) he was blogging before I started last year and 2) he was way too popular during the summer of 2006 to be considered as somebody emerging. I think this guy is already a sensation even before he started this new blog. His new page fulfills the criteria so what the hell, let’s keep him here. His writing style in undoubtedly great and the little place he has for improvement (mostly on the technical side) will soon be ironed out as soon as this big shot finishes his first semester at the University of the Philippines.

Spots 8-10 will be filled at a later date. I can’t seem to think of other sites that fit the criteria as of the moment.

Gibbs Cadiz by Gibbs Cadiz - I really thought that he was blogging way before the contest period. Well, apparently, he’s eligible so here he is. Do I think he’s emerging? No. He’s already a super giant in his niche (theater). And yes, that niche was non existent until blog came along. Is his blog influential? I don’t know if more people are watching plays now, but more people seem to be reading about them thanks to Gibbs. Theater has an audience - at least in cyberspace.

Froodee by Various Bloggers - As they say, you can’t help but to love your own. Froodee is nouvelle blog that seeks to break the mold of niche blogs. Instead of having a focused topic, each blogger is encouraged to post something different to the table. It’s only a few months old, but it’s definitely gaining steam. VOTE FOR FROODEE!!!

The Construct by Alex Maximo - Whew! I had no idea he only started blogging last August. He manages to funny and be politically correct at the same time and that has to count for something. Other than, his mastery of the English language is something that we all should aspire for.

Other sites that I would’ve wanted to include in my list include:

Friendly Atheist by Hermant Mehta (June 2006) - This would have been a shoo-in. Easily the best Atheist website.

Ditz Revolution by Helga Weber (May 2006) - Everything about this blog seems so right - the words, the layout, the pictures - you can’t help but come back for more.

Atheista by Benjamin Espina (January 2007*) - This is really dicey. I started March 2006 in Wordpress, moved to MyJournal in February 2007 and went with a self-hosted blog in March 2007. Do I still qualify, Janette? Hehe I’m not qualified due to my blog’s age so you all have to think of someone else to nominate. hehe
