This almost didn’t come to reality, but thanks to having luck on my side (and about 20% of the universe conspiring to make sure an exam got rescheduled), I was able to go to a debate show taping on NBN (that’s the channel formerly called PTV 4). We taped for two episodes of the weekly debate show Youth Voice hosted by Atty. I’m-sorry-Sir-I-can’t-recall-your-name and Ms. Angelique Lazo. Monday was a holiday, but six school children decided to get out of bed to debate using a format they are not familiar with on topics that really concern a lot of people. The show’s purpose is not to see who the better debaters are. It’s more of a forum wherein all arguments for both sides of an issue is considering. Due to this, there was no decision issued for any of the debates. In the end, it’s the people who win because they get to learn new perspective to an issue thanks to six very able debaters from UP Manila and De Lasalle Univeristy.
The two debates dealt with the Republic Act that mandates the changing of middle-of-the-week holidays to Mondays and the two versions of the Cheap Medicines Bill. I represented UP Manila along with Lee and Aya. Call time was at 12, but the real taping started a few minutes before one. Since the show hasn’t aired yet, I don’t think it’s right to drop any hints on how well (YAY!) /poorly (BOO!) we fared.
Here are some pictures from the day:
As you can see, the make-up artist for the show got too happy with caking it on our faces. It was crazy. Aya looked like she was straight out of the 1980s! Haha!
While waiting for our turn under the hot and bright lights in the NBN studios, Aya captured this shot of me while I was trying to eat a fly on my nose. Yum.
After five hours of talking, eye-fucking the camera and shameless plugs (haha, I managed to do a shout out to the Philippine Blogging Community), the six debaters and the two hosts finally had the chance for this photo. What a fitting end to a productive day in the studio.
Note: Four debaters didn’t know that we needed to bring a change of clothes for episode number 2. So yes, the guy from Lasalle is wearing my green jacket. Two of the girls also switched tops. Lee is likewise wearing a shirt that I brought. I think I had enough clothes in my bag to shoot three more episodes. Hehe
Thank you NBN!
