New 7 Wonders of Nature: Vote For Tubbataha

After pissing off Egyptians in a ploy to update the list of the seven man-made wonders of the world, New7Wonders Foundation is at it again. The voting for the New 7 Wonders Of Nature is now underway with the 77 nominees from all over the world duking it out for the 21 slots reserved for the finalists. Only sites with an official committee to support the nomination were allowed to continue and by the looks of things, it’s quite easy to see that it will be a very contentious and divisive race to the top.

The Philippines is represented by the biologically diverse enchilada of the Tubbataha Reef in the Sulu Sea. The prohibitive location and price of Tubbataha has made it quite a novel destination for the everyday traveler, but for the serious divers, naturalists and underwater photographers, the reef has long been a treasure trove of stunning discoveries and unforgettable experiences. Due to the remoteness of the reef itself and to further protect the underwater environment, diving in Tubbataha is limited to three months a year.

As of today, Tubbataha is in the middle of the pack at number 30.
