Flynn has a very interesting, yet largely unofficial tally of the top institutions in the world of debate. This will be solely based on the number of points each institution has accumulated during the two major tournaments of 2007-2008. This is by no means a scientific/definitive ranking. It is merely a tabulation of each institution’s points this year.
For uniformity, wins in the PIDC have been credited 3 points each.
| RANK | INSTITUTION | NDC | PIDC | TOTAL |
| 1 | University of the Philippines Diliman | 145 | 87 | 232 |
| 2 | Ateneo de Manila University* | 134 | 81 | 215 |
| 3 | De Lasalle University - Manila | 71 | 63 | 134 |
| 4 | University of the Philippines Manila | 86 | 42 | 128 |
| 5 | University of Santo Tomas | 68 | 54 | 122 |
| 6 | Philippine Military Academy | 87 | - | 87 |
| 7 | Lyceum of the Philippines | 55 | 24 | 79 |
| 8 | Ateneo de Davao University | 51 | 12 | 63 |
I will be the first one to admit that the system is not perfect. There was no team cap (i.e. limit to the number of teams an institution can send) during the NDC. UP Diliman had the advantage of sending the most teams for both the NDC (11) and the PIDC (6).
*Ateneo won the NDC and the PIDC.
Perhaps a per-team average would be more accurate (?)
| RANK | INSTITUTION | NDC pts/TEAM |
PIDC pts/TEAM |
TOTAL pts/TEAM |
| 2 | University of the Philippines Diliman | 13.18 | 14.50 | 27.68 |
| 1 | Ateneo de Manila University* | 14.88 | 16.20 | 30.08 |
| 3 | De Lasalle University - Manila | 11.33 | 12.60 | 23.93 |
| 4 | University of the Philippines Manila | 12.29 | 10.50 | 22.79 |
| 5 | University of Santo Tomas | 11.33 | 10.80 | 22.13 |
| - | Philippine Military Academy** | 8.70 | - | 8.7 |
| 7 | Lyceum of the Philippines | 9.17 | 8.00 | 17.17 |
| - | Ateneo de Davao University*** | 12.75 | 12.00 | 24.75 |
** PMA had 10 teams in the NDC.
*** AdDU only sent 1 team to the PIDC.

This is a good indicator of performance over time, but I guess the large differences in the number of teams can distort it. Can you do something like this for all NDCs and IIDC/PIDCs that we have tabs of?
I tried doing that, but we don’t have tabs of the 2006 NDC. The 2005 NDC tabs doesn’t have team scores either. Haha
Cool. What about we include all debating institutions in the list? That would probably take a lot of work.
Or maybe you can also add additional points for winning the championship.
Benj, ang toxic mo. Mas fun yung supertabs!
Hey Benj, check out the fruit of my labor:

how did you compute for the ranking of ust, knowing that there is ust and ust-science that competed as separate contingents in both ndc and pidc..??
thanks.. we’ll wait for your answer
