The Unofficial Philippine Debate Rankings

Flynn has a very interesting, yet largely unofficial tally of the top institutions in the world of debate. This will be solely based on the number of points each institution has accumulated during the two major tournaments of 2007-2008. This is by no means a scientific/definitive ranking. It is merely a tabulation of each institution’s points this year.

For uniformity, wins in the PIDC have been credited 3 points each.

RANK INSTITUTION NDC PIDC TOTAL
1 University of the Philippines Diliman 145 87 232
2 Ateneo de Manila University* 134 81 215
3 De Lasalle University - Manila 71 63 134
4 University of the Philippines Manila 86 42 128
5 University of Santo Tomas 68 54 122
6 Philippine Military Academy 87 - 87
7 Lyceum of the Philippines 55 24 79
8 Ateneo de Davao University 51 12 63

I will be the first one to admit that the system is not perfect. There was no team cap (i.e. limit to the number of teams an institution can send) during the NDC. UP Diliman had the advantage of sending the most teams for both the NDC (11) and the PIDC (6).

*Ateneo won the NDC and the PIDC.

Perhaps a per-team average would be more accurate (?)

RANK INSTITUTION NDC pts/TEAM
