Philippine Blog Awards: My First Batch Of Nominees
The 2nd Philippine Blog Awards just started accepting nominations so it’s quite crucial to get the word out even if the actual event is still months away. The results of last year’s awards were more or less justifiable and you could say that for the most part, the people who were in the short list and those who actually won were deserving of what they got. I’ll try to nominate three blogs every week.
Here’s my list of nominees so far:
Category: Best Blog - Personal
I’ve been saying this forever. A person who lives a simple, boring and unevenful life has no business winning this category. So yes, I don’t expect any wallflowers in that short list. The winner should be a vibrant character who has a lot of things going and still manages to let his readers in on what he is actually about. Victor Villanueva could’ve won last year and no one would’ve complained (I recall picking him to win, actually) - and if he wins this year, the response will be the same. He’s an intelligent guy who has passion for the things he believes in. He does so many good things for worthy causes - causes that most people would spend hours debating on. This is what personal blogging is all about - being interesting yourself.

Among all the short listed blogs from last year, IronWulf has to have had the strongest case for winning. If he was nominated last year, I don’t why he wouldn’t deserve it now. He’s upped his game and has collected prestigious accolades along the way. IÂ just don’t see how the committee can deny him of a him for two consecutive strong showings. I just don’t see it happening.

My last choice would be somewhat of a surprise because last year, most of the nominees were household names - they either had a strong readership base or they knew someone from somewhere that made current for the event. For this Blog Awards, I hope that the other people who are not really into the new off-line community that local bloggers have built in the past two years would also get decent exposure.
That is why I’m nominating Joyce Dancel - a visual artist, dancer and fellow med student. Even though she has a lot on her plate already, her blog is an excellent window into what a medical student goes through. She’s tongue-in-cheek about things, but she connects even if she’s a total stranger. She’s talented in so many levels.

Did you agree with my choices?
I hope this inspires you to nominate other people.

Definitely agree with Ironwulf as the best travel blog
