I don't think so. I think it's all subjective, and therefore biased. Curiously, national pride is also about being biased towards one's Motherland. Remember, Singapore in the 1960's did not even have it's own water supply (I think it currently still doesn't), but national pride motivated it's citizens to work hard for its development. Therefore, I find nothing wrong with encouraging our own countrymen to be biased towards our own natural wonders. My only caveat is that just like what is happening to Boracay now, environmental rape will surely be the price that popularity will pay. Its not just about being proud that even just one of our sites will be one of the 7 wonders(if ever) but mainly because they do deserve to be on that list. To tell you, Philippines have 9 or 10 sites ORIGINALLY nominated when the 7 wonders of the world were recognised in Lisbon last year. As a part of the celebration, they unveiled the news of having the worldwide voting again for the 7 wonders of nature. On the First week of nominations, we(from UK) were the first to nominate Philippine sites, even contacted the UK representative for the NW campaign. We did our part, and were glad that our local government did their part by putting up OSC. The point is, its not just about eco-tourism as they say but its time we give this sites the right exposure and accolade they deserve. If youre worried of these sites being destroyed, that just shows that you really dont trust the people who are preserving these natural sites. Afterall as WEBBER, the one who started this, stated during the convention, "Its about getting to know beautiful and exotic sites from around the world so that we can preserve their natural beauty." ITS NOT ABOUT GETTING THEM KNOWN TO THE WORLD AND DESTRYING THEM. oh well, i almost wrote a novel lol If the panel experts concluded that there should only be one for each country, then I would go for Chocolate Hills. Tubbataha has Great barrier reef as its counterpart.
