It seems like Spread Rationality has been sabotaged by same people who stole the crystal skull, so I’ll take this opportunity to nominate another deserving blog.

I first heard about this last year when my music genius cum photography enthusiast blockmate Julian mentioned our classmate’s Gideon Lasco’s breakthrough project. Gideon and Julian are both avid mountaineers and they along with a handful of their orgmates in the UP Med Outdoors Society make the most out of weekends to climb mountains and take stunning pictures from thousands of feet above sea level.

Later on, I heard that Gideon and his blog was featured *cover!* in the Sunday Inquirer Magazine. That has to count for something major, right? Though I like going to Sagada, I’m not exactly a hardcore mountaineer. I have yet to join these guys - either that or they have yet to allow me to join them. LOL

As I’ve been saying all along, what would make blogging more relevant is not high-strung histrionics about stolen cash or musings about how to make more money off the internet. While I do concede that such things have tangible value in one way or another, those are not the things that would make blogging transcend its current state as second-rate journalism. It’s cliche, but it has to be about quality content. What are the criteria for quality? Well, I think a blog has enough substance if it has useful information that is practical and relevant to the people who advocate and follow a certain niche. Once blogs reach that level of credibility - once there are examples that could be used as pseudo-references — then I think we can safely say that blogging has reached a new state.

PinoyMountaineer does all that and more. Not only does it provide comprehensive reports on climbing advisories and general overviews on mountains in the country, it also provides for a venue wherein mountaineers and outdoors enthusiasts could meet each other and hook up. This early, it seems like the local community is already responding positively to this project. So I guess it’s just proper that we congratulate Gideon and everyone else who worked hard for this site.

Oh check out their stats.

UNIQUE VISITORS PER MONTH

For a new blog, it’s nothing short of monstrous. That’s just crazy.

True! I’ve been looking at Pinoy Mountaineer for itineraries (Anawangin and Manabu). I didn’t know they had this much unique visitors. F*ckin’ amazing!

nice website. I`ve always wanted to try mountain climbing. Never had the opportunity though. Phil seems to have quite a number of decent climbs.

Hi Benj. Thank you for sharing the site stats. It is amazing how much they get and to think it is a new blog. It seems there will be a lot of specific destination, adventure travel, and food blogs this year which will further enrich the content available online.
