Win Wolfgang’s Latest Album! One Copy Of Villains Up For Grabs!

Villains, Wolfgang's New Album, 2008 Release

Since I’m feeling extra generous these past few days, I decided to throw in something really special on the table. I’m giving away Wolfgang’s latest studio release Villains.  This is the band’s first album since the 2001’s Black Mantra so it’s a project that everybody anticipated. Since Wolfgang is now producing music through their own label Semenelin Music, their albums aren’t likely to end up in the shelves of established record stores. This means that getting this album can be considerably difficult so you better grab this chance! :) To sweeten the pot, I’ll throw in a limited edition Wolfgang sticker!

How to join:

1. Leave your First Name, valid email address and/or blog/website in the comments section. I will be contacting winners via e-mail so please give me one that works.

2. In the comment box, simply list your favorite Wolfgang song and explain why. :) ADDENDUM: If you’ve already answered the question, simply write something about Wolfgang (the music, the guys, the concert/gig experience how they’ve touched your life by fixing your marriage) in 40 words or more. :)

3. Hit Post! That’s how easy it is. One comment will be equivalent to one raffle entry. The winner will be drawn randomly. You are only allowed to make one comment per day.  Example: If you leave 4 comments for the entire contest period, you will have FOUR entries in the raffle. :)

4. Deadline for entries will be final second of 2008 (Atheista time). The winner will be drawn by a soon-to-be-determined person other than myself on the first day of the New Year. :)

I won’t be able to mail the album so you have to get it from me IF you win. :) I live in city of Manila.

GOOD LUCK.

****If nobody joins… well, that’s just sad. haha****

Hmm, it’s probably Halik ni Hudas. I first listened to it while I was in 4th year high school going to college. The band put into words what I felt at the time: frustration with the hypocritical politicians and rebelling against authority figures (this was around the time when I first became aware of my atheism). And, let’s admit, it’s an awesome kickass song.

It was also when I really started listening to local rock music. I tuned in to LA 105.9 since it had more and better pinoy rock music compared to the other stations (NU 107 was, and still is, a pop-rock station. Did they ever play songs by Tribal Fish, Dahong Palay, Tame the Tikbalang, Death by Audio, Advent Call or Erectus? Before they became famous?). Wolfgang didn’t really break out in the scene and distinguished themselves from the rest until Halik ni Hudas first aired. Combining heavy metal riffs with hard rock leads, grungy-esque vocals, and lyrics that resonates with the youth that’s sick and tired with centuries of Confucian-Catholic subservience to parents, adults, and Big Brother. Plus, it’s dark symbolism piqued my growing anti-religious sentiments even more.

BTW, the rules aren’t clear. If we’re allowed one comment a day, does that mean I have to repost my first comment each time? It wouldn’t be a favorite song if other songs also hold that distinction, right? Or do I write new reasons for liking my favorite song?

it has always been Halik ni Hudas for me. It’s a really in-you-face song that talks about corruption (well, that’s how I view it), and how bad it has been affecting our society. This song really opened my mind.

My first Wolfgang concert was ALIVE 2007. I still can’t forget that day January 6, 2007. Up until now I still can’t believe that I was actually there watching WOlfgang and Razorback play together in one bad-ass gig. Wolfgang has been one o my major musical influences. I am a guitar player and Wolfgang contributed a lot to my musical preferences, the way I write riffs and pretty much expanded my musical influences more than I could have ever imagined. I salute Wolfgang. Wolfgang rules!

I’m not sure if I can list 1 favorite song from Wolfgang. Maybe right now I’m kinda hooked on UNDERTOW. I just love listening to the live version, the one with the orchestra. I remember watching this being performed and it just blew my mind away. I also think that each member of Wolfgang is a good musician, and they keep on improving!

for me its ‘Mata Ng Diyos’. its lyrics might be dark but the message is simple, there is still a ‘higher being’ thats still looking after us. musically i think this song showcases all that what wolfgang has, melodic guitars, kick ass riffs and solos, wicked drums, bass lines and most of basti’s haunting vocals.

back when i was in high school (early 90’s) when the band explosion in was happening, there were only 2 bands that really stood out that did their thing and succeeded, the eheads and wolfgang. we all know what turned out of the eheads. for me wolfgang should be given the same admiration as what the eheads have right now. they are one of the few bands that deserve that kind of recognition for what they have done for filipino music. wolfgang ROCKS!!!

Was drawn the garden that we’ve sown
                  You made So damn happy
                  Wanting to fallow you around

It’s Semenelin for me. Nothing serves ecological justice with apocalyptic poetry better than an obscure proto-mech guardian inadvertently dug by greedy humans from the bowels of of an abused Earth. I was so worked out by this song that I named my firstborn (a daughter) Semenelin who was born in 1996. She’s way taller and smarter than her peers today, and boy am I proud: “The mighty behemoth, Semenelin!”
