For years now, Manuel Quezon III (more famously known as Manolo Quezon) has been dishing on point columns on various publications and putting the issues in a new perspective on his weekly talk-show-slash-lecture-program “The Explainer”. Manolo Quezon personifies what most Filipinos would like in a leader – level-headed, rational, responsive and passionate without the trappings of traditional politics.
Manolo’s popularity is definitely on an all time high and a run for the senate is a very feasible idea already. He has not voiced out his plans for 2010, but with enough of those who believe in his potential in abilities, we may just get him to run for us who think that we deserve leaders at his caliber.
Having Manolo in the Senate will not just be a good development for Philippine politics just because of what he brings to the table – it could also send a strong message that the political landscape in general is changing to a more progressive and critical-thinking atmosphere. It will heavily erode the strong biases against sectors of society.

I am not enthusiastic about the guy. Not because your face is on
TV. And you have a TV program. That you can become a successful
politician. We need people who have good ideas in solving our problems. Like the SQUATTERS problem that causes, not only pollution
but floods. We would like to discuss with him on this issue.
Hyden, who says his being on TV is the reason behind the clamor for him to run?
If you've been reading his blog, you'll see that he actually has ideas on many of the country's problems.
Quezon's knowledge and abilities will serve him well as senator.
However, I'm not as optimistic with regards to his chances. Columnists are known only to the select few who read the papers. Bloggers are known only to fellow bloggers.
I had watched his program on TV. It is boring to me. It does not
even excite me. I watch programs all over the world on my Satellite
TV. I have compared them to his program. It is not intellectual. I
know one when I see one. His agenda is not a solid one.
So just because his program is boring and exciting you think he's not qualified to be senator. Funny.
Oh, and that example you gave of the Governator producing his own movies as proof of his leadership skills, didn't Erap and FPJ produce theirs too? In fact, FPJ and Erap did better because they were able to establish the MOWEL fund as well.
And how come producing movies is a valid leadership attribute while leading effective protests against the Book Blockade and coordinating post-Ondoy relief efforts are not?
I have been in the U.S. corporate world for many years already. I have a damn good experience in seeing true people and fake people. We hire people. Same as in choosing good leaders. You choose capable people. The results of our choices, reflect the condition of our country.
It is time to redefine our thinking in politics. If we are not producing good results. Then, we must be doing wrong in our choices.
The Philippines is now at the bottom of countries in Asia that are rated in development. Vietnam was devastated with a 20 years war. Recovered and surpassed us already. We are importing Vietnam's rice.
Erap Estrada is a convicted plunderer. He may had done good movie
producing. But, his character for leadership is flawed. Reagan did
better, inspite of the Iran-Contra scandal. Reagan did not go to jail.
Erap Estrada did, and is a suspect for Dacer-Corbito murder.
Yeah, take the case of conrado de quiros, he is also a good columnist, but he wold never dare any public position because he knows its two different things to be a good writer and to be a good leader. But again, while we are getting ramon revilla and the likes of edu and boboy of singing bee aspiring for the senate, we could settle for him if there is no other.
When will we learn that if a Guy can sing well, act infront of a movie
camera, or be a good host in a talk show. It does not mean he is a
good legislator, or a good leaders. A legislator needs a lot of knowledge, common sense and intelligence. Much more for a leader.
Pres.Ronald Reagan was a movie actor. He was also an Economics graduate from college. He is a good communicator. And showed good leadership in the movie industry, before he became President. We should correct our concepts on celebrities, turning into politicians. WHAT YOU SEE, IS NOT USUALLY WHAT YOU GET…
Again, I say it. Look for educated, experienced and capable people
to elect. You can see their records; their agendas and the causes
they advocated. If he/she is doer, it is that person. Not people who
got elected. Then, just sit there in the Congress and Senate. Looking
to go to Las Vegas to view the bouts of Manny Pacquiao. Watch out for
politicians putting their sons and daughter as candidates. We dont
want Dynasties. Do We?
Arnold Swarzenegger, the present Governor of California was a movie
actor also. He immigrated to the U.S. from Austria. He was a body
builder. He was also in the construction industry. The fellow is
really intelligent. He had a German accent. But, went on to the movie
industry. No movie producer wanted to produce his movies. His name
is long. And, his accent is terrible, like Sylvestre Stallone. So,
he produced his own movies. And they were successful. He even married
the niece of Pres. Kennedy; Maria Shriver, who is a Democrat. Swarzenneger is a Republican. So, the fellow has GUTS. Not just good
looks and talents. This is an example of a doer. Not an opportunist
like most of Filipino Politicians. Villar and Erap Estrada are a good examples of opportunists.
