Watch Dark Knight and Save Lives

Dark Knight  is among the most  anticipated films this year. With the very strong merits of the last Batman movie (Batman Begins) and the death of Heath Ledger – the actor who plays the intriguing role of the Joker — the movie could break all sorts of records in the box office aside from kudos from movie critics and casual moviegoers alike. The film also stars Christian Bale, Michael  Caine, Aaron Eckhart and Maggie Gyllenhall.

For those who want to watch Dark Knight before everybody else, the Philippine General Hospital Sagip Buhay Foundation  is offering premiere night tickets for the reasonable price  of 250 pesos each. Sagip Buhay Foundation is a non-stock non-profit organization that helps indigent patients in the PGH wards and intensive care units avail of potentially life-saving medications and  diagnostictests. It has been helping needy families of the seriously ill for the past fourteen years already.

For a ticket that’s not even twice the usual ticket price in SM Mall of Asia, you can enjoy Dark Knight before most people would get to watch it aside from also giving those in need a hand in helping their loved ones fight the biggest challenge of their life.

What: Dark  Knight Premiere

When: JULY 18, 2008 (Friday) 7PM

Where: SM Mall of Asia

How much: 250 pesos

Again, all proceeds go to the Sagip Buhay Foundation. For more tickets and inquiries please text Dr.  Adrian Paul Rabe  at +639163333603.

Atonement

200710162309.jpg

Since I’m not really into reading a lot of fiction, I only encountered the name Ian McEwan when I grabbed my copy of Richard Dawkins The God Delusion. As you would expect, Dawkins’ book is more a cerebral book that buttresses Atheism and is nothing like  McEwan’s most distinguished work to date Atonement. Apparently, McEwan and Dawkins are  close friends thanks to their affiliation with the British Humanist Society – an organization that is committed to freedom of belief and speech along with the end to the privileged position of religion in law, education, broadcasting and wherever else it occurs. So further point out the obvious here, McEwan is a humanist. I’ve more  or less referred this label as Atheism with a social conscience on a previous entry written ages ago. Continue Reading »

Why Jumper Sucks

By now, you probably know that Jumper totally failed to live up to the hype and just left most of those who watched in a total state of disgust and frustration. When you first see the trailer to Jumper, it’s hard not to be thrilled by it. The concept is not exactly fresh, but the whole idea of teleportation has been revitalized by the meteoric rise of the series Heroes and the cult appeal of X-Men which features Nightcrawler - a mutant with similar abilities.

Aside from playing with the innate human desire to break away from the limits of physics and chemistry, the movie’s concept also plays with two other principles that often define life as we know it – self-control and accountability. With David Rice‘s (Hayden Christensen) abilities, it was no longer necessary to rein himself in to prevent getting into trouble. He didn’t have to stay in line and wait for his turn. He could literally get what he wanted when he chose to have them.

Those are the reasons why we were drawn to the trailer – the glitz of jumping and the fantasy escape that is offers.

Verbatim: Don’t Watch “The Golden Compass”! It’s “Atheism for Kids”!

Benj: I have no plans of seeing The Golden Compass, but this forwarded e-mail made me crack up a bit!

Warning: possible spoilers

Hi everyone,

There will be a new children’s movie out in December called “The
Golden Compass”. The movie has been described as “atheism for kids”
and is based on the first book of a trilogy entitled “His Dark
Materials” that was written by Phillip Pullman. Pullman is a militant
atheist and secular humanist who despises C. S. Lewis and the
“Chronicles of Narnia”. His motivation for writing this trilogy was
specifically to counteract Lewis’ symbolisms of Christ that are
portrayed in the Narnia series.

Clearly, Pullman’s main objective is to bash Christianity and promote
atheism. Pullman left little doubt about his intentions when he said
in a 2003 interview that “my books are about killing God.” He has even
stated that he wants to “kill God in the minds of children”. It has
been said of Pullman that he is “the writer the atheists would be
praying for, if atheists prayed.”

While “The Golden Compass” movie itself may seem mild and innocent,
the books are a much different story. In the trilogy, a young
streetwise girl becomes enmeshed in an epic struggle to ultimately
defeat the oppressive forces of a senile God. Another character, an ex-
nun, describes Christiaity as “a very powerful and convincing
mistake.” In the final book, characters representing Adam and Eve
eventually kill God, who at times is called YAHWEH. Each book in the
trilogy gets progressively worse regarding Pullman’s hatred of Jesus
Christ.

“The Golden Compass” is set to premier on December 7, during the
Christmas season (and staring Nicole Kidman), and will probably be
heavily advertised.

Promoters hope that unsuspecting parents will take their children to
see the movie, that they will enjoy the movie, and that the children
will want the books for Christmas.

Please consider a boycott of the movie and the books. Also, pass this
information along to everyone you know (including church leaders).
This will help to educate parents, so that they will know the agenda
of the movie. I am sending this to those of you who have kids or
friends with kids, grandkids or have influence with kids. So many
things today are darkness concealed in what appears to be innocent.

Don’t let kids see “The Golden Compass”

For anyone with kids, grandkids other relatives or friends who this
may concern, I have checked it out at

http://www.snopes
.com/politics/religion/compass.asp and it is TRUE.
Read the info on the link.

PASS THIS ON AND LET’S HELP STOP THIS MOVIE DEAD IN ITS TRACKS!!!! “
