Wolfgang at the Metropolitan Theater – June 18, 2011

WOLFGANG will be playing their first solo show since Basti Artadi has decided to stay for good in the country. It will be a major event and it seems like the band picked the perfect venue for such a momentous occasion. The Metropolitan Theater (or the Met) has always been one of the most enduring examples of Art Deco architecture in the country but due to decades of disrepair, it has now become a shadow of its former glory – the City of Manila is trying to change that by making it more relevant to present-day events and Wolfgang’s concert will certainly breathe new life to this theater that was once one of the finest in the country.

Metropolitan Theater is located at Lawton, Manila – just next to the bridge that connects South Manila to Quiapo.

The Tanduay First Five Concert Schedule: Updates

I guess this makes it official – Wolfgang will definitely be part of the Tanduay First Five Tour for 2011. The press conference was done at Century Plaza Park Hotel in Malate and all five bands (Wolfgang, Parokya ni Edgar, Kamikazee, Chicosci and Sandwich) were all in attendance to answer the questions of the press. Finally, after almost three weeks of trying to keep the big secret to myself, I can safely say that Basti Artadi will be staying for good in the Philippines and Wolfgang (at least in its current incarnation with three original members and a very able drummer in Francis Aquino) will be raising hell all over the country once again as they try to resurrect and represent the proud lineage of 90s Pinoy Rock. Basti made the announcement in a taped message that was played during the press conference. It was a short message but it definitely related everything that a Wolfgang fans wanted to hear. Wolfgang – As Oceans

Basti Artadi Wolfgang

The 90s produced a wealth of bands in the local rock scene and few if any could claim to have had bigger success and influence than Wolfgangarguably, the best representative of the hard rock/ metal genre in the mainstream. The band was simply prolific in releasing amazing album after amazing album in the mid to late 90s and were always one of the best live acts in town due to their punishing sets and tremendous technical abilities with their respective instruments. Life among other things got into way of good music during the past decade so the band had to stop playing for a bit to concentrate on other worthwhile endeavors. Continue Reading »

Wolfgang’s seventh album in the works

Basti Artadi, Mon Legaspi, Manuel Legarda and Francis Aquino are *allegedly* now in the songwriting phase for the seventh Wolfgang studio album. It’s been over two years since the release of Villains that featured tracks like R.P. Death Squad, Ibrahim and Soap so it’s definitely a much anticipated effort from the band. Wolfgang has been in a weird state since Basti Artadi decided to leave the band indefinitely to pursue a life abroad but thanks to a concert in 2007, the band’s fans were given a glimmer of hope that yes, maybe the band could move on despite the geographical limitations. Wolfgang Hit N Run Wish List

hit n run poster

Again, Wolfgang will be taking the stage again on December 1 at 19 East in Sucat. This will be just a few days before they rock out in Dubai so it will be quite a show. For tickets, call: 0906.103.5333
0915.621.2189

Part of the proceed would go to the benefit of the victims of recent disasters.

This is Wolfgang’s eighth show since the informal hiatus that the band took in the early part of this decade. Let’s count down those eight shows

1. Peligro (Makati, 2004?) – This absolutely was the most emotionally-charged moment for a Wolfgang fan in the years immediately after Basti Artadi’s unexpected “sorta-farewell” message. People who got in had the time of their lives while those outside bitched and moaned like there was no tomorrow – guess which group I was in.

2-3. Alive Music Museum Concerts (January 2007 x 2) – The Alive concerts are just way too hard to top in terms of milestones. Not only did these concerts allow more people to see Wolfgang – okay fine, three of the original members — it also hinted at the potential of a new album despite the ridiculous geographical challenges.

4. Black Christmas at Eastwood (December 2008) – This concert featured the release of VILLAINS – Wolfgang’s sixth studio album. Read the entry if you want to really know how I felt about this concert.

5. Two Sides Live at Music Museum (March 2009) -  This had major technical problems during the beginning – it was very annoying to see the tech guys fumble with the microphone. Kevin Roy’s mic malfunctioned several times. And wow, the bouncers were absolutely ridiculous. The idea of sitting down in a rock concert is absurd – in my opinion, since the people on stage are standing up, leaving your seat while the band is playing is a sign of respect. But no, these bouncers were ready to spoil the party. ANNOYING BITCHES. Good thing Lizza fixed things when it was Wolfgang’s turn to play already.

6. The Singapore Set

7. The Cebu Set
