Day 2 of the Cebu – Bohol Trip: Cebu Trivia Night

The first day in Cebu was an absolute trip – there was great food all throughout the day and we closed out the night with an awesome set courtesy of Next Stage in VuDu. Day 2 meant that our small group of three was to expand to a merrier band of nine as the other members of Team Manila flew in to the city.

Before meeting up with the rest of the team, we stretched the time we had in Hotel Pier Cuatro and relished every minute of shut eye that we could get. Before making our way to the other hotel that the team would be staying in, we trooped to CnT first to grab our second lechon lunch for the trip. Yup, healthy eating was definitely in the agenda for this trip. Continue Reading »

Cebu Lechon, AA’s Barbeque and that awesome band from Vudu (Next Stage)

We were invited by Cebu Trivia Night for a Manila versus Cebu special last weekend (this will be tackled on a later entry) and for some reason, two of my friends and I decided to fly the day before of the event to give us a chance to see what the city had to offer. It’s been almost four years since my last trip to Cebu so I was pretty sure that there would have been a lot of changes already.

We stayed at Hotel Pier Cuatro – a hotel that’s near, well, Pier Cuatro. The accommodations were quite basic but the price was a good deal – 1380 pesos for three people with free breakfast sure sounds like a steal, yes? The staff was very friendly and helpful and the guard even helped me retrieve a bag that I accidentally left inside the cab that we took from the airport (I know…). This hotel is NOT in a posh area of the city but it is close to Park Mall and SM Cebu. Pier 4 is also the same pier that one would go to to catch the SuperCat ferry to Tagbilaran, Bohol.

National Bloggers Association: Reactions

I’ve received a copy of a so-called manifesto that was being drafted by the framers of an organization that wishes to call itself the National Blogging Association. I’ve publicly responded to the parties who were trying to form this group via Twitter and my answer has always been an emphatic NO. Many people have been writing about it (Juned and Jayvee - two of my blogging idols) so I think it wouldn’t hurt if I threw in my two cents regarding the issue.

For all intents and purposes, I would like to believe that blogging as it stands now is free from regulation and no one person or party can claim that they have the mandate to directly influence it or somehow make resolutions or standards that would be the de facto conventions of an entire community. Blogging has become so big now in terms of breadth and reach that a club composed of the big guns in the scene couldn’t possibly organize and herd a large group of independent minds. The Tanduay First Five Concert Schedule: Updates

I guess this makes it official – Wolfgang will definitely be part of the Tanduay First Five Tour for 2011. The press conference was done at Century Plaza Park Hotel in Malate and all five bands (Wolfgang, Parokya ni Edgar, Kamikazee, Chicosci and Sandwich) were all in attendance to answer the questions of the press. Finally, after almost three weeks of trying to keep the big secret to myself, I can safely say that Basti Artadi will be staying for good in the Philippines and Wolfgang (at least in its current incarnation with three original members and a very able drummer in Francis Aquino) will be raising hell all over the country once again as they try to resurrect and represent the proud lineage of 90s Pinoy Rock. Basti made the announcement in a taped message that was played during the press conference. It was a short message but it definitely related everything that a Wolfgang fans wanted to hear. I’m runner number six for Globe’s Run For Home 2011

Last year, I ran the Globe Run For Home course and set my then personal best for the 5km (29:14). It’s an above average time, but for someone of my age and level of activity, I knew that I should be a lot of faster and better. After joining a lot runs last year and moving my way up to the different distances in road races and really pushing myself to train for longer routes, I think it’s a good time to try out to push myself again and go for a 21km course. Tanduay First Five: Wolfgang, Chicosci, Sandwich, Kamikazee and Parokya ni Edgar

Wolfgang will be part of the Tanduay First Five lineup and I’m definitely excited! As always, the concert tour would snake through 30 cities from all over the country. The usual big cities are part of the tour but there are also locations that are off the beaten path – you’d probably have to use Google to know some towns on the tour schedule!

Wolfgang has not toured extensively for almost a decade so it’s going to be interesting to see the reception that they’ll get from the maniacal fans from the provinces. They’ve only played in Manila in Cebu in eight years so you can bet that people from Davao, Iloilo, Baguio and other places are raring to get their Wolfgang fix. Continue Reading »
